A small flat metal brace is used to pull the edge of the ingrown toenail away from the underlying soft tissue. The edges of the nail are then gradually and gently lifted by the tension in the brace.<\/p>\n<p>During your first nail bracing consultation an initial assessment of the toenail will be needed to establish whether your nail condition is suitable for this treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The most common side effect is;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Infection<br \/>\u2022 Partial release of the nail from the nail bed<br \/>\u2022 Allergic reaction to the materials that has been used<br \/>\u2022 Follow up consultations will be required one week after toenail brace placement and every 6 weeks thereafter to check the firmness, position and effectiveness of the brace.<br \/>\u2022 In the event of redness or complaints, have the medical pedicure remove the braces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Toenail bracing is undertaken by a trained professional.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NAIL RECONSTRUCTION &#8211; GEL \/ ACRYLIC TECHNOLOGY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Toenail reconstruction is a cosmetic procedure that is performed by a medical pedicurist using a specialist gel that is layered either directly onto the nail bed if no nail is present so that a brand-new nail is created;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Disguising unsightly or misshapen nails<br \/>\u2022 Creating a long-term prosthetic nail <br \/>\u2022 Replacements for nails lost through trauma so that the nail is more aesthetically pleasing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Indications<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cracked \/ split and discolored nails<br \/>\u2022 Damaged nails following injury or trauma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The most common side effect is;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Infection<br \/>\u2022 Partial release of the nail from the nail bed<br \/>\u2022 Allergic reaction to the materials that has been used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0Advice regarding aftercare:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Follow up consultations will be required one week after toenail brace placement and every 6 weeks<br \/>\u2022 For redness and \/ or complaints, have the (partial) artificial nail removed by the medical pedicure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the process of nail repair techniques, the nails must be carefully smoothed and well rounded off. This is to prevent pressure marks or skin damage; this is also part of the check.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ORTHESE &#8211; SILICONE TECHNOLOGY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the treatment, an orthosis can be worn by the client temporarily or for a long-term to permanently. The temporary or permanent relief of the toes or adjoining foot sections with increased pressure or with a deviating toe position.<\/p>\n<p><u>\u00a0Indications:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An orthosis is made for red \/ pressure sensitive areas on or between the toes, for corrections;<br \/>\u2022 For abnormal toe positions in persons with a rheumatic disorder who are under control;<br \/>\u2022 For people with gout and a rheumatic disorder, the choice of the hardness of the silicone material is a special point of attention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Contraindications:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allergy to the material;<br \/>\u2022 Stiffness of toe and foot joints;<br \/>\u2022 Severe sweaty feet (Hyperhidrosis).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Advice regarding control:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1st check takes place within 1 week, then after 4 to 6 weeks<br \/>\u2022 For risk patients check within 1 week, then after 2 weeks<br \/>\u2022 3rd check takes place in children (over 10 years) after 3 months, 6 months in adults and every 6 weeks in risk patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>What the Medical pedicure can do for you is<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Thickened nails can be thinly milled and polished. Crumbly, split nails and nails where the corner is missing can be filled in to prevent the ingrowing of the nail as much as possible and to remove excessive calluses on the feet.
