Fungal Toenail
This condition is one that takes a long time to develop and manifest. Classical features include a nail that becomes discolored ( yellow, brown or white), thickened, brittle and may even fall off.
It is commonly seen in the toenails though it can be seen in the fingernails as well. Nail fungus is easy to pick up from showers, locker rooms, and swimming pools because fungi thrive in the damp, humid conditions. People with underlying health conditions like diabetes, circulatory issues, or immune-deficiency conditions are especially vulnerable.
Fungal nail infections in the nails rarely cause discomfort, however, it can be unsightly in many cases and difficult to treat.
Wash your feet daily without soap, rinse soap residue thoroughly when washing with soap and dry well, including between toes. Moisturize your feet and apply an anti-fungal tincture such as Mycose twice daily.
Be smart about your footwear. Choose socks that wick moisture away and change them regularly. Make sure your shoes fit well. They should be made of something that lets air move through it, like canvas, mesh, or leather.
Wear shower shoes in wet public places like locker rooms and swimming pools.
At Joyro we can also provide advice about the type of footwear to be worn and how to look after nails.
