SPECIAL TECHNIQUES

NAIL REGULATION – NAIL BRACING TECHNOLOGY

This technique is a useful treatment for anyone who suffers from excessive curvature of the nails (ingrown toenails). A small flat metal brace is used to pull the edge of the ingrown toenail away from the underlying soft tissue. The edges of the nail are then gradually and gently lifted by the tension in the brace.

During your first nail bracing consultation an initial assessment of the toenail will be needed to establish whether your nail condition is suitable for this treatment.

The most common side effect is;

  • Infection
    • Partial release of the nail from the nail bed
    • Allergic reaction to the materials that has been used
    • Follow up consultations will be required one week after toenail brace placement and every 6 weeks thereafter to check the firmness, position and effectiveness of the brace.
    • In the event of redness or complaints, have the medical pedicure remove the braces.

Toenail bracing is undertaken by a trained professional.

What the Medical pedicure can do for you is

Thickened nails can be thinly milled and polished. Crumbly, split nails and nails where the corner is missing can be filled in to prevent the ingrowing of the nail as much as possible and to remove excessive calluses on the feet. Removing calluses relieves pain immediately.

If the cause of the callus formation is poorly fitting footwear, it is important that you replace it with support soles that can be custom made by a podiatrist or podiatrist.
